A few months ago, we told you about the Bregenzer Festspiele opera festival, which takes place annually in the small Austrian town of Bregenz. Rather, not about the Festival itself, but about its main site - a floating stage installed in the middle of the lake, which every director tries to turn into a masterpiece. So, this year the opera "André Chénier" is being staged on this stage. We want to tell you about it today.

The opera was directed by the world-renowned theater and opera director David Pountney, a native of Great Britain, and the set designer is British David Fielding.

It was Fielding who invented and realized the main element of the scene, against the background of which the action of the opera "André Chénier" takes place - the huge torso of the dead Jean-Paul Marat. After all, the opera tells about the life of the poet André Chénier during the French Revolution, and the murder of Marat is one of the most striking events of that time, which greatly influenced the entire course of French history.

The main action of the opera takes place on a small stage, stylized as a book of poems by André Chénier himself. By the way, he very positively perceived the death of the furious revolutionary fanatic Marat and even wrote a laudatory ode to his murderer Charlotte Corday, for which he fell out of favor with the Jacobins and was subsequently executed on the guillotine just two days before the fall of the Robespierre regime.
