Perhaps only people devoid of imagination could argue that chairs are needed solely to sit on them. But the heroes of our articles with fantasy, as a rule, are all right, which means that we can regularly witness how the most ordinary things turn into something amazing. And since we are talking about chairs, then we simply cannot fail to mention the American Marc Andre Robinson, who creates original sculptural installations from these very chairs.
Marc Andre Robinson works in the genres of sculpture, painting, video, and creates interactive public projects revolving around the psychology of historical, cultural and tribal affiliation. “Playing with the dialogue between art and artifact, he collects old furniture and turns it into sculptural ensembles with complex and gracefully balancing symbolism” - such a characteristic of the author's work can be seen on his website.
One of Robinson's most famous works is the sculpture “Throne for the Greatest Rapper of All Time”. “I began to think about this mythical cultural position and that this position is always subject to claims by others,” explains the author. - From a distance, the throne looks authoritative, but if you come closer, you will understand that this is not at all what you would like to sit on. And if I would like to, then it will be extremely short."
Another notable work is a sculpture in the shape of the letter "T" about 4.5 meters high. Mark André Robinson, who commissioned this work for T Magazine, admits that he wanted to create something that from a certain point of view would look like a “T”, but in fact was a pile of old furniture.
The author was born in Los Angeles, where he currently lives. Graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (bachelor) and Maryland Institute College of Art (master). Robinson takes an active part in various national and foreign exhibitions.
