The artist writes about his work in the following way: “Working on the creation of paintings, I discovered a language that is understandable to many people. I draw not just cute, sentimental pictures, but I try to express something that is perceived and understood by many, something that would leave a warm mark on the soul. And he does it very well!
Vladimir Kush was born and raised in Moscow. His father Oleg, a mathematician, encouraged his son's drawing skills from an early age. He did his best to get his son books on drawing and about adventures (which little Volodya loved so much), which were often difficult to access, or even completely forbidden.
The artist began to paint at the age of seven. His first drawings were sketches on plots from books that his father gave him. Vladimir entered the Moscow Art Institute. The artistic method of most teachers was realism, but even then it seemed to Kush too "dry". Then he had the idea to combine realism with surrealism. According to Kush, he is distinguished from the surrealists not only by the ideological framework, but also by the depiction of real undistorted objects, the absence of dark tones in his works. And so he was born magical worlds.
After compulsory military service, where the artist was mainly engaged in painting large wall murals and portraits of generals, Kush did not teach for long, but later decided that he could make more money (and would also have enough free time to explore his new pictorial style). painting people on the streets. There he also made connections with employees of the American Embassy, who helped facilitate his immigration to the United States after his first successful exhibition in Germany in 1989. Now Vladimir lives in Maui, but still often travels to Moscow, according to the artist, the winters are still cold. thrills his imagination, but the thunder of Hawaiian thunder is firmly settled in many of his works. About his homeland, Kush writes: “Due to political and geographical restrictions, I was forced to travel with the help of imagination as a child, and this most of all shaped my artistic perception and voice, but perhaps I would never paint flowers or clouds like this as in my paintings, if I had not seen the landscapes of my second, tropical home."
