Richard MacDonald, one of the most famous figurative sculptors of our time, is famous for his ability to convey in sculptures not only the perfection of a person's physical forms, but also the strength of his inner spirit, his energy and passion. One of the author's most striking works is a series of sculptures depicting artists of the world famous Cirque du Soleil.
The idea to work with circus performers did not come to Richard's mind by accident. No matter how strange it may sound at first glance, the author claims that there is a lot in common between him and his models. What could have united the sculptor and the circus performers? Richard does not make a secret out of this: "This is a special energy that both I and the athletes have. This is a burning desire and even the need to challenge all restrictions."
In his works, Richard McDonald seeks to explore the "human theater", investing in each sculpture his own understanding of strength, energy, endurance, passion, hard work. "The art of Richard MacDonald reveals the endless beauty of the human body. The images he creates will play in the theater of life forever", - this is how the work of the sculptor Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du Soleil, described the work.
Richard McDonald was born in California in 1946. In 1971 he graduated from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Despite his acknowledged talent for sculpture, Richard McDonald goes beyond her, creating paintings, drawings and prints as well. Every year, the sculptor's solo exhibitions are held throughout the United States. The author's works are worthy exhibits in many collections in the United States and abroad; among the admirers of his talent are Bill and Hillary Clinton, Luciano Pavarotti.
