Surfing and painting are two big passions in the life of the Hawaiian Chris Lundy. Or not even, the main passion is the ocean. After all, it is his waves that give Chris a feeling of freedom and all-consuming happiness while surfing, and then the author transfers these inexpressible emotions to the canvas, painting the same ocean waves over and over again.
In his writing, Chris Lundy perpetuates the kinetic energy and graceful movement of his beloved waves. According to the artist, his paintings are not just “portraits of waves”. Each work of the author is his own experiences, reflections and emotions. And therefore, drawing waves becomes practically meditation for Chris. The ocean for the artist is a place of relaxation and discovery, where he seems to photograph the brightest and most magical moments with his gaze, in order to then capture them on canvas.
Chris Lundy works with acrylics, creating both small paintings and fairly large-scale canvases. Although the subject matter of the artist's works is the same, his works cannot be called alike. Only the technique is similar, but the waves themselves appear before the viewer in a new way every time: probably, depicting salty splashes shining in the sun and rolling ridges, Chris is of the opinion that two identical waves simply do not exist in nature.
Chris Lundy was born in 1956 in Florida. The author graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, after which he moved to Hawaii, where he still lives. The artist's works can be seen at various exhibitions, as well as in magazines dedicated to both surfing and art - for example, Surfer's Journal or Juxtapoz. In addition, Chris Lundy has collaborated with Nike on numerous occasions as a designer, embellishing limited edition sneakers with his signature ocean waves.
