Most people use lighters when they need to set something on fire. But creative people, as we have seen more than once, do not belong to the majority. For example, French artist Oliver Kosta-Théfaine uses a lighter to create amazing paintings using a small fire source instead of a paintbrush.
Oliver Kosta-Théfaine was born in Paris in 1972. However, the artist's work was influenced not by the chic and sophistication of the French capital, but by its street life. After spending his childhood on the outskirts of Paris, where the only source of art was street graffiti, the now adult Oliver Kosta-Théfaine is doing something similar himself. Only instead of walls he has ceilings, and instead of a spray can of paint - a lighter clutched in his hand.
Here is what Oliver Kosta-Théfaine himself says about his work: “I did not go to art school, I had no teachers, no one told me what I was doing right and what was not. My art school was my environment. I used what I saw where I lived because it was familiar to me. I often say that I can be compared to a sampler (note - a device that allows you to generate new sounds by repeating, transforming or mixing pre-recorded natural sounds): my environment is the subject of my art. I don't need to create something new, I just observe and then interpret it."
Oliver Kosta-Théfaine's passion for the outskirts is evident. She ignites in him a passion that is felt in every work of his. The city acts as the artist's muse, inspires him to work. The author is proud of his belonging to the culture of the outskirts and emphasizes this in every possible way in various interviews. More information about the artist on the site.
