French photographer Elene Usdin has started an interesting project called "Femmes D'Interieur". By combining photography and painting, the author received a series of original images that outwardly have nothing to do with reality, but are filled with deep meaning and light irony.
In each of his works, Elene Usdin combines a traditional female portrait with an interior item: a chair, a sofa, a piano. As a result, a woman turns out to be not just depicted against the background of this or that interior: she fits into it so much that she literally becomes a part of it. Well, if you do not take into account the events of the last century, when the fairer sex began to fight for their rights, then the collages of Elene Usdin quite clearly demonstrate the idea of a woman's place in society: she had to stay at home and lead a decent life. Even now, many men demand the same from their wives. Although it is unlikely that Elene Usdin can be accused of feminism: the photographer reveals stereotypes rather than actively encourages to fight them.
While working on Femmes D'Interieur, the author photographed the interiors, and then painted classic female portraits with acrylics over the prints. Each work has a female name: Penelope, Matilda, Olga, Camilla, Eleanor … The portrait titled Sand is dedicated to George Sand: Elene Usdin portrayed the writer as a woman-chair: “She invites the viewer to sit on it. But pay attention to the aggressive barracuda on the armrest - it completely overturns your idea of a submissive woman."
Elene Usdin started her career as a book and magazine illustrator in France and the USA. In 2002, her passion for photography began. Currently, the author specializes mainly in photography for fashion magazines.
