Ah, this wedding, wedding, wedding sang and danced … and imposed on the newlyweds such centuries-old traditions as the ransom of the bride, the theft of shoes and the mystery of the first night. Different countries have their own customs, which young people try to honor. For example, in India, before the wedding, the groom gives the bride a box of henna, with which she paints the body with the traditional Mehndi pattern.
Moreover, the bride does not herself. According to custom, before the wedding, her friends and women of the older generation gather in the girl's house. While the young are singing old songs, the adults are teaching the bride how best to please the young husband so that he is satisfied and does not look to the side. It is believed that the more intricate and subtle the pattern on the arms and legs of the bride, the more the older generation managed to teach her. The wedding lasted exactly as long as Mehndi kept on the body of the newlywed. Exactly the same number of girls could not work around the house, since henna drawing was considered sacred, and it could not be overshadowed by household chores and dirty with dirty dishes.
As for the symbols depicted on the body of the bride, they were also considered symbolic. For example, a triangle pointing up, denoted a masculine (active) beginning, and a triangle pointing downwards - a submissive woman. The crescent moon depicted on the palms symbolized the birth of a child. Flowers and fruits are the upcoming joy of family life. A bow and arrow drawn on the feet mystically helped the couple overcome all everyday difficulties. And the image of a fish was a signal for the future husband, talking about the submissiveness of a woman in bed.
Needless to say, the Mehndi masters tried to fit absolutely all the symbols on the bride's body? But at the same time, a woman had to bear responsibility for each drawing. Promised to have children? Be good, do it. Told you that you would be obedient? Then stop scandalizing over trifles. Today brides also do Mehndi before their wedding. True, the traditional tattoo is no longer applied by friends, but by masters in beauty salons. This is understandable. The artist draws better, more professionally. Take "natural" body art by Johannes Stotter. This is simply not possible for an ordinary person to repeat. Except to admire the beauty.
