Warm pictures by Fred Calleri, full of nostalgic notes, revive romanticism in painting, give moments of peace and kindness. The characters created by the artist are a little eccentric, but at the same time, insanely cute, they look from the canvases with huge blue eyes. They look somewhat lost, as if they were suddenly pulled into this alien world for them, and all they have to do is look into the past and expect that someday everything will be fine again …
Fred Calleri was born in June 1964 in Maryland, USA. The artist studied at the Maryland College of Art. And although Fred loved and knew how to draw from childhood, during his studies he attended a painting lesson only once, because "I hated the smell of turpentine." The author seriously took up professional painting only after the birth of his son in 1997. And he became famous almost immediately!
In 2001, Callieri moved with his family to Flagstaff, Arizona. It was this place that became a source of inspiration for the artist, he himself says: "After all, here is history itself, and landscapes, and people inspire to create beautiful things." And Callieri really paints amazingly cute and positive pictures, full of nostalgia and romanceThe artist writes about his work like this: “Each painting is a new lesson where you can play with mood, colors, lighting and life. Following the winding path of romanticism, I do not want to repeat the old, but I strive to create new images. Studying painting, I realized that if I allow myself to play a little with the image, then it seems to begin to live its own life. The painting itself tells me how to draw further."
The artists of the Renaissance and the first half of the 20th century had a great influence on Fred's work. Taking inspiration from the works of artists such as Zorn, Sargent, Vermeer, Sorolla, Callieri sought to reproduce classicism and romanticism in painting, to recreate the atmosphere of the last century.
By the way, we have already written about such artists as Alexander Sigov and Wang Xiaojin, who are also trying to revive traditional painting.
Today, the artist holds many personal exhibitions, his paintings can be found in many private collections. Often his illustrations appear on the pages of art and design magazines. You can see more of Fred Callieri's work on his website - www.fredcalleri.com.
