We use umbrellas mainly on rainy days. But the inhabitants of many southern countries need them, first of all, for protection from the heat. And whole street of flying sun umbrellas appeared recently in the Portuguese city of Agueda.
Umbrellas are a very popular object in contemporary art. Someone uses them in their unusual installations, someone - as a canvas to create paintings, and Portuguese artists from the Sextafeira Producoes group turned them into an element of the urban landscape.
In many cities of southern Europe, where the number of sunny days per year is close to 365, there are covered galleries and even streets that create shade for walks and gatherings during the hottest part of the day.
There is a similar object in the Portuguese city of Agueda, moreover, it appeared quite recently. And it was not architects who worked on its creation, but artists from the creative association Sextafeira Producoes. They took an existing street for many centuries and turned it into a covered gallery.
Moreover, they carried out this transformation, using only multi-colored umbrellas against the sun as building materials. They hung several hundred of these objects over the pedestrian street, turning it into a beautiful and vibrant place for walking and gathering throughout the day.
During the heat and heat, these umbrellas will protect people from the merciless rays of the sun, during the rain - from the streams of water falling from the cloud-covered sky.
Jokers have already linked the appearance of this street covered with umbrellas with the relocation to the town of Ageda of the world's most famous nanny, Mary Poppins, who, according to the tale, travels catching the wind with her umbrella.
