Minnesota resident Roger Hansonlike many people on Earth, in winter he creates various shapes from snow and ice. But his works differ from all such objects in their enormous size, as well as in the fact that he creates them with the help of the geothermal heating system of his house.
Almost all of us have done what Roger Hanson does. We all sculpted (or still sculpt) snowmen, drew figures of angels in the snow with our bodies and did other fun things in the winter season. Someone even took it seriously and participates in all kinds of festivals of snow sculptures, which take place in the plural in different parts of the world.
But Roger Hanson doesn't need to travel anywhere to create such works of snow art. Moreover, he could not have done it anywhere except in his own yard. Indeed, in order to create his snow-ice figures, he uses the geothermal heating system of his own house.
Several years ago, Hanson noticed that water droplets from this system freeze on the street in winter and create bizarre ice figures. A man of both creative and technical mindset, he decided to use this water to create various ice sculptures and created a special system for this, controlled by a computer program written by him.
In the very first winter, when Roger Hanson decided to engage in this unusual type of creativity, an ice castle four and a half meters high grew in his courtyard.
The next year, Hanson complicated the system by adding several additional pipes. As a result, he got an ice sculpture twice the size of last year.
Well, this season, the author is generally carried away by gigantomania. At the end of winter 2010-2011, everyone could admire the giant castle ship twenty-six meters high and twenty-six meters long, which grew in his yard during the cold season. "It's only the beginning!" Roger Hanson smiles slyly, hinting at his idea for next winter.
