The famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen, who traveled extensively in Greenland, called igloo huts "A temple of solar joy in the midst of the white silence of the desert." Looking at the amazing ice house built by Daniel Gray and his girlfriend Kathleen Starie in Edmonton (New Zealand), I just want to add that their "temple of joy" is not only sunny, but also colorful. How the guys managed to achieve such an extraordinary effect - read on.
The idea to build such an unusual dwelling came to mind of Kathleen's mother, Burton Stari. For several months, the woman collected cardboard milk cartons, and on New Year's Eve she found them excellent use. She poured water dyed in different colors into each package and exposed it to thirty-degree frost. In such a simple way, she got ice "bricks" of all colors of the rainbow.
Engineering student Daniel Gray immediately set about building the igloo hut. First, he cleared the place, and then - erected ice walls. Of course, he did not build it himself, he was helped by family members. The entire work took about 150 hours, during which time the construction team laid out a domed building of 500 bricks, carefully covering all the cracks with snow.
By the way, the multi-colored igloo is not yet the most daring variation of this traditional Eskimo dwelling. On our website Kulturologiya.ru we have already talked about the stone domed house "Utopix", as well as about the igloo built from books.
