It’s unprecedented, readers will say, looking at the title, - have we never seen embroidered portraits, have we never embroidered with a cross or satin stitch on the hoop? But one has only to pay attention to the illustrations, as it becomes clear that we are not talking about embroidery at all, but about weaving portraits from threads, helping to form a drawing with needles. So unusual thread painting are engaged Pamela campagna and Thomas Scheiderbauer, family duo L-able … Indeed, embroidery is a bit trivial, and there are many other ways to create an unusual, original picture, using familiar needlework tools such as threads and needles. Of course, a small problem may arise from this, how to call such a work of art, because it will not be full-fledged embroidery, and it does not pull on a drawing either. The definition of "installation" is most suitable, although the authors of the images prefer to speak simply and concisely: artwork.
For their artworks, the couple used old photographs from a home album and spools of thick black thread. The work on the large-scale portrait of the whole family took about a month, despite the fact that the artists used monochromatic threads, without complicating the already complex weaving system with color transitions. But when it came time to work on a woman's portrait, L-able decided to make it two-tone, "drawing" shadows on the face with gray threads.
The amazing technique of creating such installation portraits, coupled with colossal diligence, hard work and truly reinforced concrete patience, make you admire these works again and again. With other works Pamela campagna and Thomas Scheiderbauer can be found on the L-able website.
