“To be honest, I am mesmerized by the way the world is going digital. It seems to me that the digital world is personal, but not for everyone. - This is how designer Marlies Romberg begins her story. We will return to the story a little later, but for now we will write about the project itself.
Yes, before that we had to read about wooden mice and keyboards, there were even laptops with wooden inserts. But here - the computer is made of wood, and this is no joke. The project was named "Dear Diary 1.0", and this project is a computer. As you might guess, the computer is unusual. He is all clothed in wood, and all is not an exaggeration. Here we can see a laser cut wooden keyboard and a wooden mouse that fits perfectly. Well, and of course, one cannot but say that the monitor and keyboard are literally inserted into the table, and are quite logical continuation of it. It all looks extremely unusual, as if we were in the last century. However, I believe this computer does work. After all, it was not just that the designer also created a flash drive, and again not from a simple material. This time, it was decided to make the gadget out of porcelain. A wooden computer and a porcelain flash drive - it sounds proudly! This is where it is worth giving a continuation of the designer's story.
“Look, for example, if I want to find information about my friend, I google his name, and for sure I will find information about his life, animals, the company where he works, maybe even his article about a digital camera, which he recently wrote … Note that in Holland the verb "googling" has recently acquired the status of the most common verb. And this is just another example of how two worlds become one."
This computer is a direct example of how these two worlds gradually and imperceptibly merge together, and some do not even notice it. Perhaps the designer gives an overly subtle hint to this, but he explains everything with a message to the project.
