Respect for Buddha in the vastness of a quarter of Eurasia knows no boundaries. And what kind of images of their deity are not made by believers - Buddhas of pearls, gold and jade, Buddhas of the Most Light, Unwavering and Wise … After all, the Enlightened One has a thousand equal incarnations. And the only place where you can get an idea of the infinity of its forms - Temple of ten thousand Buddhas; figuratively speaking, the most Buddhist monastery in the world.

On a high hill in Hong Kong, in the Sha Ting area rises Buddhist monastery … This is not quite a real temple: there are no monks here, but it is serviced by enthusiastic local residents. But, despite this "inferiority", the rumor about the monastery thundered all over the world. And its history began in 1949, when the venerable monk Yuet Kai received the inheritance of a wealthy Buddhist merchant. Without thinking twice, Yuet Kai decided to invest all material gold in spiritual affairs and build a monastery. For eight years the old monk worked on a par with the builders, and in 1957, speaking lofty, the object was put into operation.

All this time, Yuet Kai did not forget to collect Buddha statues. And don't be fooled by the name "Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas": in fact, 12,800 sculptures and figurines are kept in a Buddhist monastery … but who? Many people mistakenly believe that Buddha is the nickname of a man named Siddhartha Gautama, who lived two and a half thousand years ago and left behind teachings, disciples and holy relics (for example, an old tooth). But this is not at all the case.

Buddha is the code name for anyone who attains Enlightenment by discovering the dharma - Truth. And this can be done by any person, if he properly ponders himself and the world around him. Therefore, thousands of sculptures of Buddha, thin and fat, bald and hairy, with dragons, frogs and dogs, standing in rows on the shelves of the monastery, soaking in the rain and drying under the sun on 8 hectares of its territory - this is a monument to all humanity striving for the light of truth.
