Jewelry designer Maiko Takeda has created a series of pieces that take the accessory design industry to a whole new level. After all, the main emphasis in these works falls not on the product itself, but on the shadow falling from it on the human skin.
The meaning of the designer collection called "Cinematography", according to the author himself, is to wear shadows as jewelry. Each piece is made from a sheet of metal in which Maiko drilled thousands of holes of various sizes. When rays of light pass through such an accessory, an image suddenly appears on the human body. So, a wide-brimmed hat casts shadows of flowers on the back, and when wearing a necklace on the chest, an image of an eye appears. Of course, this effect can be achieved only under certain conditions - the presence of a light source is mandatory. But Maiko Takeda argues that even with such volatility, it is the shadows that remain the main and secret component of her work.
Maiko Takeda says that the creation of such a series of works was inspired primarily by scientific and mathematical facts that people are used to considering proven and take on faith, for example, the existence of shadows or gravity. She can reduce all her creativity to a short formula: numbers + logic + space. In addition, modern theaters and performances paid great attention to the designer's work.
Born and raised in Tokyo, Maiko Takeda moved to London in 2005 to study jewelry design at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design. It is the London years that Maiko calls the most exciting period of his life. In the future, the designer plans to create his own collections for theatrical performances and fashion shows.
