Childhood is the most important time in every person's life, when he is formed as a person, when his main habits, attachments and life priorities appear. This is what the Dutch artist is talking about. Levi van Veluw in his installations "Origin of the beginning", in which he talks about his childhood.
Despite his youth (26 years old), the Dutchman Levi van Veluw has already become a fairly well-known artist all over the world. First of all, due to his unusual self-portraits. Let us recall at least his light self-portraits or his alternative view of beauty.
So in his new work, recently exhibited in the Amsterdam Ron Mandos Gallery, Levi van Veluw does not deviate from his original creative method. In the installation "Origin of the beginning", he also depicts himself, but not in the present time, but in the past, he shows his childhood.
Namely, he shows where his main interests, hobbies, passions came from, how his personality was formed. To do this, he created three rooms and three human figures from thirty thousand wooden elements (based on the parameters of the body of Lev van Veluv himself).
In one of the rooms of this installation, van Veluwe's passion for fire is revealed, in another - the desire for loneliness, and in the third - for self-examination, the desire to understand oneself. These aspects, according to the artist, helped him turn into a creative person.
As mentioned above, this installation is made from thirty thousand wooden blocks. Each of these elements was hand-cut by Levi van Veluw and adjusted to fit its intended place. The house in which the artist spent his childhood was made from a similar material, and it is the wooden elements in it that Levi recalls first of all when he thinks about the house of his childhood - they drove him into a permanent state of melancholy, claustrophobia and loneliness.
