Levi van Veluw is a young Dutch artist. known primarily for the fact that he uses … his own head as the basis for his work. We have already written about his experiments with light, and today we will present new works by the author.
"The images I create," says Levy, "are made up of illogical combinations of materials, backgrounds, colors, shapes with my head as the only constant factor." The author says that he is very careful in the choice of materials for his work, and since each image is not drawn on a computer, but created live and photographed, they all have their own story. Levy van Veluw takes his head as a basis for a reason. As the artist explains, the expressionless and almost universal face allows each viewer to imagine himself in the place of the model. In addition, the use of the same person in all works pushes the person's personality into the background, drawing the viewer's attention primarily to the changing details.
Levy's works are divided into series depending on the material used, which can be anything - grass, moss, gravel, wood chips, pieces of carpet … The author's imagination simply knows no limits. The process of creating the image, according to Levy, is not nearly as interesting as the result. He just sticks materials to his face. It takes about 11 hours to create one photo.
The artist is outraged by the modern concept of the aesthetic, which implies the absence of unsatisfactory characteristics and general human defects. According to Levy, this is an extremely superficial idea of the beautiful, so in his works he tries to present an alternative view of the problem.
Levy van Veluw was born in the Netherlands in 1985. He graduated from the ARTEZ Art University and was trained by the renowned Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf.
