It is interesting to observe how from something banal and dull, such as old unnecessary magazines and newspapers, we get what can be called art. Australian artist Anna-Wili Highfield makes her obedient birds from this unpretentious material. The result is sculptures that are ingenious in their simplicity.

Unlike other paper art masters, Anna-Wili Highfield works a little casually, which makes her work look like a sketch, a blank for something larger. There is some kind of understatement in these sculptures, but maybe this is their phenomenon, their charm.

Most of all, the artist loves to create birds out of paper. From scraps of paper, she makes a whole flock of a variety of birds, and very rarely these are images of local, Australian birds. So, we will not find any kiwi bird or ostriches among the paper sculptures, but starlings, owls, crows and sparrows are present in abundance here.

In addition to paper sculptures, the artist has a whole series of sculptures made of copper wire. These and other works can be seen on the website of Anna-Wili Highfield.
