In a few weeks, the most famous auction house Sotheby will sell and buy art from Islamic states. The auction called Arts of the Islamic World will take place on March 19, and the closer the appointed date, the hotter the discussion of the favorite lot of this event. It will be a unique Indian carpet, completely covered with pearls and precious stones with a total weight of 30 thousand carats.
It is known that the Baroda carpet, which was woven and decorated specifically to bring as a gift to the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad, not only never adorned the last monastery of the venerable elder, it had never been put up for auction before. A unique thing was first kept for a whole century by the descendants of the Maharaja of the city of Baroda. And the last "mere mortals" who were lucky enough to see this man-made miracle were visitors to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where the carpet was exhibited in the 80s of the last century.
In mid-March, the product, the surface of which is decorated with 2 million blue, red and turquoise-blue pearls, hundreds of rubies, sapphires, diamonds, and in the center - huge sparkling diamonds, will go under the hammer … it is still unknown to whom. Someone very, very rich, because the starting price of an Indian carpet in 1865 was about 6 million Indian rupees, and modern experts estimated it at no less than 5 million dollars.
However, the organizers of the auction are confident that the final price of the lot will increase significantly, given its not only aesthetic, but also historical value. And here is the "personal file" of the notorious antiques on the Sotheby's auction house website.

Looking at old canvases and photographs, you sometimes wonder how expensively the residents of "unwashed Russia" are dressed.
