Portland's author Eva Lake's collages from The Babe In The Target explore the role of strong women in society and history. And although the main elements of all images are repeated - targets, women, circles - each work is individual and does not look like another.
Eva Lake says that from the age of thirteen she began to be interested in the personalities of famous women - beautiful, successful, swimming in the rays of glory. And the more the author learned about them, the more clearly she understood one thing: people are more interested in the appearance of actresses, their clothes or personal life, and not their work. Unwittingly (or is it still wanting?), Women become a kind of targets: objects hunted by many people - fans, photographers, critics, journalists …
Many of the faces depicted in Eva Lake's collages are not at all difficult to recognize: Tina Turner, Liz Taylor, Naomi Campbell, Liza Minnelli, Marilyn Monroe … They are rich and famous, they are envied, adored and hated. And what is it like for them to always be in the spotlight of the public, under the lenses of the paparazzi, under the scrutiny of millions of people, most of whom are just waiting for the next sensation, connected not with new roles, music albums or fashion shows, but with your personal life?
Unlike most people, Eva Lake presents famous women not as sexual goddesses, but as strong personalities who have achieved success with the help of their wit and beauty. "It's pretty dangerous to be beautiful, isn't it?" - the author reflects in his works.
Eva Lake was born in Los Angeles in 1956 and currently lives and works in Portland. In addition to creating collages, the author is also engaged in painting. The full collection of "targets" can be seen here on the official website Eve Lake.
