A loving grandmother happily bakes pies for her grandchildren, sculpts dumplings with cherries, treats them to sweets and gingerbread. A caring grandmother will certainly knit socks, scarves and mittens for them … And a modern "grandmother", a textile designer Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam, gave her knitting not only to her own grandchildren, but also to all Japanese children, without exception. Her giant installation Woods of netknitted from thick and durable multi-colored yarn, this is not just a creative project, but also an active attraction, a unique playground located in an open-air museum Hakone Open Air Museum … From wind and rain "Forest of colored web", such a name is given to a knitted playground, is reliably sheltered under the dome of a wooden pavilion, built specifically for this purpose. Features of the structure allow knitted attractions to be attached directly to the wooden beams of the pavilion, and the beams are securely fastened to each other in an innovative way that does not require staples, rails, nails, or other metal objects. For the construction of the pavilion, the authors of the project spent about 230 cubic meters of wood of different species, and the artist Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam needed more than a ton of colorful yarn to knit a playground for children. However, this yarn looks more like thick textile cords, which require a special hook and a special knitting technique. And only by hand.
The creation of a unique playground of its kind took place in several stages. At first, the artist worked on the largest and most complex elements of the installation, then they were attached to their places in the pavilion, and already there new and new elements of the future playground were added to them. Of course, the artist herself would not have done it, since most of the knitted elements turned out to be very massive, and professionals of another specialty should attach them to the ceiling of the pavilion. Therefore, a team of assistants Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam was engaged in the equipment of the pavilion, they also assembled all the heaviest structures. The ready-made and equipped Woods of Net game complex, also known as a knitted installation by a Japanese artist, consists of multi-colored nets and trampolines, stairs and labyrinths, original swings, soft safe climbing walls, knitted playgrounds for knitted pillows and a number of other unusual entertainments. For parents who brought their kids to run, have fun and fool around, the author of the project has provided multi-colored soft poufs.
The unique art project Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam can be called one of the most original and useful installations. Bright fantastic compositions will appeal to children, and when the child is happy, the parents are happy and doubly satisfied. More information about the project is on the Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam website.

Transcending the Material. Knitted skeleton in Ben Cuevas art project
An unusual and somewhat conceptual installation was created by artist Ben Cuevas for the Wassaic Project show in New York. A skeleton sitting in a lotus position on a pyramid of cans of condensed milk. Already in itself, this composition seems strange, but that's not all: the skeleton sitting on the banks is not taken from the anatomy office at all. It is completely knitted, from the crown of the head to the smallest bone on the little toe of the left foot
White Ainu: Despised by the Japanese, Who Created Japanese Culture
Japan has not always been populated by Asians. It took them a long time to conquer the islands from the tribes who are now known as the Ainu or Ainu. The Japanese despised the Ainu as barbarians, almost animals, but they were finally able to defeat them only when guns appeared. Moreover: a lot of things in Japanese culture came from the savages they despised, including the phenomena that are considered basic for Japanese culture
Latin alphabet in Japanese. Asialphabet art project by Yoriko Yoshida
No wonder Japanese, Chinese and other "hieroglyphic" languages are popularly called "lunar". After all, the Asians, and so everything is somehow different, "not our way": they think in their own way, dress too, prepare food differently, we will not mention the behavior in society and moral standards of decency … So maybe, are they really aliens? Absurd, of course, but the fact that many Japanese, in particular, creative personalities like the artist Yoriko Yoshida, are not of this world, is discussed
How the Japanese feel about the yakuza, and what the legendary Japanese gangsters are doing today
Despite the fact that the Japanese authorities are fighting criminal groups today, the headquarters of the yakuza are often decorated with neon emblems, and their addresses can be found in directories. The largest clan even publishes its own magazine, and once a year, at the Sanja Matsuri Shinto festival, everyone can contemplate criminal tattoos with symbols of various clans. In popular culture, bandits often act as noble robbers, and this tradition has a long history. Arr
