Griffiths offers something more interesting: pedaling and drawing at the same time. As a result, you have burned calories and an abstract picture on the wall.
The Drawing Machine is an installation that is a modified bicycle. There are colored markers attached to his steering wheel, pedals and chain, and as soon as one of these elements starts to move, the markers begin to draw. The installation is interactive, that is, it involves the obligatory participation of spectators. So now, instead of the gym, you can go once to the exhibition and spin the pedals there.
Of course, the "Drawing Machine" is not yet capable of drawing, say, a landscape or a portrait. All that she is capable of is multi-colored circles and stripes that are of no particular artistic value. But the installation by Joseph Griffiths is one where the process itself is more important than the result.
Joseph Griffiths is a Melbourne artist living in Paris. His drawings and mechanical installations are intended to describe the existing relationship between man and technology. “My interactive drawing machines offer a return to primitive technology and encourage reconnection with nature and the artificial world through handcrafts,” says the author. “By involving the audience directly into the creative cycle, my works call to reconsider the place of a person in the technological balance and to realize the potential of art penetrating into everyday life.”
