Video: "I'm proud of myself": A girl without arms and knees prepares for her own wedding

When Jelissa was born, doctors told her mother that the girl was unlikely to live to see her adulthood. The child had no hands, no knees and only 7 toes. Now Jelissa is 30 years old and she is preparing for her own wedding.
Jelissa Austin herself, who lives in Texas, admits that she was sure that she would live alone all her life - in a relationship, and even more so she did not count on a wedding. The girl learned to do all the necessary procedures on her own with the help of her feet, including typing on the keyboard and brushing her teeth. She now owns her own weaving company and is busy with management issues most of the time.
Now Jelissa lives with Jonathan in the same apartment, they plan to get married this summer. Jonathan's height is 170 cm, and Jelissa is 1 meter. “We are both looking forward to this event,” says Jelissa. “When people meet us on the street while walking, people sometimes come up, shake Jonathan's hand and tell him that he is great. We meet very little with negative attitudes, thank God."
The couple met 13 years ago through mutual friends. For a long time they were just friends, but over time, this friendship grew into a closer relationship. “It doesn't matter to me that she has no arms or that she is short. It never influenced my attitude towards her. I just love her as an ordinary person and treat her the same way."
The doctors can't explain why Jelissa was born this way. “I still haven't been given an adequate diagnosis,” she says. - And it seems to me that they will never deliver. My mom was simply told that I had no hands, no knees and that I had growth delays. They said that I would never walk and would not live to see my 18th birthday. Well, here I am - I'm 30 years old and I can eat a lot, a lot of things!"
Jelissa's mom, Deborah, admits that it was a real shock for her to find out in what state her daughter was born. “The first few days were the hardest. But then we dealt with our feelings. Mom tried to give her daughter the very best, including the same childhood as the rest of the children. So when the time came, Jelissa went to school. Fortunately, the girl did not have to face bullying - on the contrary, everyone at school supported and helped her.
“People treated me with love during my school days. I don’t remember there were any serious bullying incidents. Well, you know, children are children. I think they loved me because I was like a doll for them. It was a very good time."
Now Jelissa owns her own business and runs her own website for the convenience of working with clients. In the house, she does most of the things on her own, but now, when she lives with Jonathan, it has certainly become easier - the guy says that he helps his girlfriend with a meal or when she needs to get something from the top shelf.
“The words 'can't' just don't exist in my vocabulary. Here I am now - the person I was supposed to become. I want all people to remember to be themselves, to be strong and never give up. As for me, I am really proud of myself and how much I have achieved."
