In St. Petersburg, at the house number 8, which is located on Malaya Posadskaya, a memorial plaque was opened to a citizen of the city. This honorary citizen is the writer Daniil Granin, who passed away in 2017. This house was chosen for a reason, but because this writer lived and worked in it for 60 years. The grand opening of the memorial plaque marked the beginning of the Year of Granin, which they decided to devote to the centenary of the birth of this talented person.
The opening ceremony was attended by Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council, who laid flowers on this memorial plaque. Its author was Evgeny Burkov, a sculptor from St. Petersburg, who is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. It was his project that most attracted Marina Chernyshova-Granina, the writer's daughter. The portrait of Daniil Alexandrovich is made in bronze on pink granite, and under the bas-relief the author's autograph is inscribed in gold letters.
Sergei Stepashin, President of the Russian Book Union, was responsible for the opening of the ceremony. During the opening, he recalled that Granin had lived in this house for many years. It was within its walls that such works as "The Last Notebook", "Bison", "Blockade Book" and "My Lieutenant" were created. On Saturday, a marathon was launched to collect books, which after the end of the action will be sent to schools operating in the villages of the Russian Federation.
At the ceremony, they talked a lot about the writer. Zoya Chalova, President of the St. Petersburg Library Society, said that Granin was friends with libraries, not only St. Petersburg ones, but also with libraries of other cities of the country. The works of this author are in demand, readers are interested in him. I think the reason for the great interest is that all the heroes of Granin's works were real people who simply went into books. The writer always tried to defend libraries, as he considered such organizations very vulnerable and librarians were grateful to him for such a position.
She also recalled that a new library was opened in the Nevsky District, which bears the name of Daniil Granin. A cultural center operates on the basis of the library. The assignment of the name of the writer of this library took place during his lifetime, and he took it with great gratitude.

Reading books by famous writers or poets of the past, sometimes you fantasize - if they all met each other, what would they talk about? How wise and interesting their conversation would be, I guess!
