Once the French-Canadian artist Steven Spazuk had a dream that would later define his career for many years. Upon awakening, Stephen was already clearly aware of exactly how he would create his work. Throwing away pencils and brushes, the master began to create paintings … with fire.

This technique is quite complex and time-consuming. That is why the artist spends most of the day in the studio at work. Often Spazuk's works consist of small fragments, like a mosaic. However, this is not so much an idea of the artist himself as a necessity. Spazuk constantly has to hold the sheet over his head, and when it is large, it is simply inconvenient to work. Working with a small fragment, the master can calmly concentrate on every detail. The magic begins when the artist brings the flame of a candle to the sheet. At this moment, abstract forms are formed, from which the artist literally "sculpts" the future image with his free hand. Subsequently, he finalizes the drawing using special brushes and other tools.

The idea to work in this technique really came to the artist in a dream. The masters were supposedly invited to the gallery, where he saw numerous paintings painted in a similar way. Surprisingly, in a dream Stephen came to understand exactly how to work with the image. Thirteen years have passed since that moment. Spazuk's technique is being improved and complicated from year to year. “It changed my life,” says the artist, “technique gives me a lot, it is unique. The spontaneity, randomness of the process is the most interesting thing. Bringing the candle to the sheet, I do not know what will happen next, what the picture will be."

The artist recalls that he grew up in a very harmonious family, in an atmosphere of love and understanding. As a child, he was timid and shy, spent a lot of time in thought, looking at the natural pattern of the wooden door in his bedroom and the clouds outside the window. Perhaps this is what determined his occupation. After all, you need to have a lot of imagination to create such amazing and complex drawings. You can learn more about the artist's technique here.
