The first love
They met in a construction vocational school, where they both entered at the age of 15. All those who entered there passed a tough selection, because the students had to master the high school program in just two years.
The classmates sympathized with Sergei Korolev: he was not like everyone else. He could easily captivate anyone with some new idea and even walk around the school on his hands, training his vestibular apparatus. He also liked Xenia Vincentini, the most beautiful of all his classmates. She had enough admirers, and the future scientist almost went crazy with jealousy.

By the time they graduated from school, Ksenia and Sergei already knew exactly where they would go: the girl was going to the Odessa Chemical-Pharmaceutical, the young man - to the Kiev Polytechnic at the department of aviation technology. Young people later began to correspond. Soon Ksenia and her father moved to Kharkov and entered the medical faculty, Sergey transferred to the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. After graduation, the girl received a distribution to Alchevsk, Lugansk region and invited Sergei Korolev to visit. As soon as the opportunity arose, Korolev came to Alchevsk, after that he was there more than once, and in one of his visits he obtained the girl's consent to marry him.
During a business trip of a young doctor to Moscow, the lovers signed, but Ksenia Vincentini was not released from Alchevsk, and at that time she was issued a diploma only after three years of compulsory distribution work. When all the formalities were left behind, Ksenia moved to her husband in Moscow.
Uneasy happiness
In the capital, Ksenia was hired to work at the Botkin hospital, and Sergei Korolev was soon given a small two-room apartment. In 1935, the couple had a daughter, Natalya. Korolev dreamed of having a child and wanted to have a daughter. Ksenia and Sergey were happy. True, the young father spent more time at work, but at that moment it did not particularly bother him. And in 1938, trouble came to their house. Korolev was arrested on trumped-up charges of sabotage and undermining state industry.
Despite the beatings and torture, Sergei Korolev refused to plead guilty, but the threat of his wife's arrest and sending his daughter to an orphanage forced him to sign all charges. Ksenia Vincentini immediately after the arrest of her husband went to the head physician of the Botkin hospital, where she worked, and told him what had happened. Nevertheless, the leadership, together with the party organizer, decided to leave the woman at work. And the family council decided that Ksenia had no right to intercede for her husband, since she had a small child. The designer's mother went to the authorities and wrote petitions.
For eight long years, Ksenia Maximilianovna and Sergei Pavlovich lived without the slightest hope of ever seeing each other. He wrote letters to his wife, in which he confessed not only love. He wrote that only now he was able to realize the full value of the family.
Test by everyday life
The path to the release and rehabilitation of Sergei Korolev was long, a lot has already been written and filmed about this. All these years Ksenia waited and believed: they will overcome everything and will be happy again. However, the very first short meeting, when Korolev, working as a convict in a closed design bureau, arrived in Moscow, turned out to be very cool. Later, Sergei Pavlovich wrote that he was saddened by the wariness with which his wife accepted.
Nevertheless, when all the ordeal was over, they again tried to build a family. But at the same time, each of them spent a lot of time at work. Ksenia Maksimilianovna became a successful and sought-after trauma surgeon, Sergei Pavlovich designed aircraft.
During Korolev's business trip to Germany with a group of design engineers, Soviet specialists were allowed to invite families there. Ksenia Maksimilianovna arrived with Natasha, but all the time she felt out of work. She was not used to idle pastime, and she did not see her husband at all.
She so wanted simple human warmth, affection, participation. But Sergei Pavlovich was very tired at work and, coming home, literally fell off his feet. After Sergei Korolev returned to Moscow, history repeated itself. He worked in Kaliningrad near Moscow and simply could not afford to spend a lot of time on the road. The designer was given an apartment not far from work, and he began to insist on the move of his wife. But how could Ksenia Maximilianovna leave her job, her patients who needed help, and go to work in a polyclinic.
However, there was one more reason: she had already heard rumors about her husband's infatuation with Nina Ivanovna, who translated specialized articles for him from foreign magazines. For a while, Sergei Pavlovich still came home, but Ksenia Maksimilianovna became more and more sad with each of his visits.
