Her mother, a sailor, and father, a ship mechanic, met her on the voyage and decided that they would call their daughter that. Lionella was born and raised in Odessa. She became interested in theater in her youth and after school decided to enter the capital's theater university. Without saying anything to her parents, the girl left for Moscow and only after enrolling in the State Institute of Theater Arts. A. Lunacharsky announced her decision to them.
