Few people know that Irish Dublin has a twin city in Ohio, USA. Of course, there are several times less attractions here than in the European capital, but the Americans also have something to boast about. The calling card of this town is Leatherlips Indian Chief Monument: a head measuring 3, 5 m, "poured" from a stone wall.
The Indian chief received the name Leatherlips due to the fact that he became famous for his ability to keep his word and not break promises. He went down in history as the wise head of the Wyandot Indian tribe c. 18 - n. 19th centuries, however, his fate was tragic. Due to the devastating war, these settlers were forced to leave their homeland on the coast of Georgia and move to Ohio. In 1810, Chief Leatherlips signed an amicable agreement with the white settlers who lived in the area, agreeing to cooperate with them. Roundhead's sibling accused him of betrayal and witchcraft, initiating his execution.
Leatherlips was killed on the territory of modern Dublin by a tomahawk strike, he died heroically, despite the fact that he was persuaded to bribe the "death squad", the guards who accompanied the leader to the place of execution. It is believed that Roundhead insisted on the death of his brother only in order to get power into his own hands, since he was the immediate heir.
The Chief Leatherlips Monument was built in 1990 by Boston architect Ralph Helmick from limestone slabs. Not far from the monument there is a cave, from where material for construction was taken; Leatherlips was killed at the entrance to this cave. For a long time, the Wyandot tribe lived in the cave itself, hiding from the weather and neighboring tribes. It is noteworthy that the monument to the Leatherlips leader is devoid of any pomp; if you wish, you can study it in detail or even climb the leader's head.
Chief Leatherlips Monument is just one of the many Native American monuments that can be found not only in America but around the world.
