As the legendary group "Zero" sang, a real Indian needs only one thing, and this is not much, but almost nothing … But the 60-year-old Wales native Mangas Colaradas (the Briton has long abandoned his real name, having taken the name of the great leader of the Apache Indians as a pseudonym) you also need respect for the way of life that he has been leading for 20 years. It is for so many years that the Englishman considers himself to be apaches, despite the fact that he lives in an ordinary country house, and by no means on the American prairies.
The decision to change his lifestyle came to Mangas 20 years ago after he divorced his wife (the couple had six children in the marriage). Since then, the unusual Englishman began to associate himself with the Indians: wearing appropriate clothes and hats, applying symbolic coloring to his face, and also adhering to the Apache lifestyle. In 1997, he even made an attempt to live for some time in the Red Indian reservation in the Land of the Setting Sun, but the government refused the initiative of Mangas. The "Welsh Apache" did not despair and settled for a while in the mountains of Spain in a real wigwam.
Mangas admits that his lifestyle is by no means a show, he really always wears traditional Indian clothes, he is also attracted to life in the bosom of nature, when there is an opportunity to watch wolves, bats, and also spiders. Today Mangas lives in Wales, but this does not prevent him from keeping many snakes in his mansion. He admits that he gets more pleasure from communicating with animals than from being around people. Following the traditions of the Apache, the "Indian" necessarily eats those snakes that die, as it is believed that nothing in nature should be lost.
The "extraordinary" relationship with nature was the reason for this trial, during which animal activists accused Mangas of killing badgers and eagles. Badger paws and eagle feathers are part of the ethnic outfit of Mangas, but he assures that these trophies are from Spain, and, moreover, he did not kill them, but found dead carcasses. Like a real Apache, he had to either eat them or use their body parts. Of course, the court did not punish Mangas.
Mangas Colaradas explains that it was no coincidence that he turned to the beliefs of the American Indians. He opposes modern society, in which there is no concern for each other, as well as for the earth - the source of life.
