He was going to become a pediatrician and treat children all his life. After the eighth grade, he was already going to pick up documents from his 126th school, but Tatyana Solovkina persuaded the boy to finish 10th grade and go straight to college.

But by the time he received the certificate of maturity, the young man managed to play the role of Arkasha Schastlivtsev in the production of "Forest" by Ostrovsky and forever get sick with the stage. True, he failed the exams at the Kiev Theater Institute, but he did not give up his dream and got a job at the Lesya Ukrainka Theater as a simple assembler. A year later, he decided to storm the Moscow theater universities.

Sergei Makovetsky did not go to the Moscow Art Theater School, but he became a student at the Shchukin School, where Alla Kazanskaya was taking a course. In 1980 he was admitted to the troupe of the Vakhtangov Theater, where he has been serving for 40 years. Soon he was already playing leading roles in the theater and began acting in films.

Elena's rich life experience and Sergei's youthful enthusiasm seemed to merge into one. Now the actor's wife admits: she cannot imagine life without a spouse, he seems to rejuvenate her, and she jokingly calls Sergei Makovetsky "her plastic surgery."

At the beginning of family life, the spouses had a difficult time. They lived in a communal apartment, and Elena's mother, who by that time was already very ill, lived in the room with them.
