The world famous Russian opera singer, People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Hvorostovsky could have turned 57 on October 16, but his life was cut short 2 years ago. He performed on the best opera stages, managed to achieve world recognition, although at the turn of the century his career was on the verge of collapse, and he himself was deeply depressed and abused alcohol. Who helped the singer to overcome the crisis, saved him from the collapse of his career and stayed with him until the last days - further in the review.
Dmitry Hvorostovsky inherited a deep baritone from his father - he was not an artist, but in the evenings they often held impromptu concerts at their homes: father and mother sang, accompanying themselves on the piano. Dmitry began to sing at the age of 4, and he had someone to look up to - his parents collected records with recordings by Fyodor Chaliapin, Maria Callas and other famous performers.
In his youth, Hvorostovsky was fond of rock music, and began his professional career in restaurants, where he performed as part of the Rainbow group. In parallel, he studied at the Krasnoyarsk Pedagogical School at the choir department. Having received the profession of a music teacher, he decided not to stop there and continued his studies at the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Arts at the vocal faculty. At the age of 23, Dmitry began performing on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater, and a year later he became a laureate of the All-Union Vocal Competition. After several victories won by Hvorostovsky at international competitions, they started talking about him abroad as one of the most promising young artists.
Early 1990s became a turning point both in the artist's creative biography and in his personal life. At the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater, he met his future wife, corps de ballet artist Svetlana Ivanova. She was 3 years older than Dmitry and raised a daughter from her first marriage, but this did not become an obstacle in their relationship. In 1991, their wedding took place, at the same time Hvorostovsky began performing in the best opera houses in America and Europe. In 1994, the artist and his family moved to London, and a few years later received British citizenship.
The couple had two twins, but soon their marriage cracked. Dmitry wanted Svetlana to become its director, but she was in no hurry to learn English and refused to help her husband in developing his career. In addition, she did not remain faithful to him, because of the betrayal of his wife, scandals often happened in the family, and Hvorostovsky began to abuse alcohol. He developed an ulcer on a nervous basis. Later, the singer admitted that at that moment a real threat hung over him to sing not on the opera stage, but at a table laden with bottles. The artist appeared on stage less and less, he began to have memory lapses. "", - the artist admitted.
Who knows how the singer's fate would have developed if in 1999 he had not met the opera singer Floras Illy, half French, half Italian, who soon became his wife, friend, muse and a real guardian angel. In 2001, Hvorostovsky filed for divorce. The ex-wife seized almost all of his property from him, but this did not stop Dmitry - for the sake of Florence, he was ready to sacrifice a lot. Since then, his life has been divided into "before" and "after" meeting his second wife.
Florence Illy helped the artist overcome depression and give up alcohol. His career took off, and harmony and peace reigned in the family. In 2003, the couple had a son, after another 4 years - a daughter. The wife, whom Dmitry affectionately called "Flosha", for the sake of him left her artistic career and devoted herself to the family. She accompanied her husband on all trips, learned Russian and even learned how to cook cabbage soup and dumplings - so that she and her husband had as much in common as possible.
Hvorostovsky said about his second marriage: "".
10 years after meeting Florence, the artist confessed: "".
Svetlana Ivanova stayed in London. She did not work anywhere and lived off the deductions she received from her ex-husband. After the divorce, they talked only once, when in 2015 Svetlana learned that Hvorostovsky had a brain tumor. And a few months after this conversation, her life suddenly ended - Svetlana died of complications after suffering from meningitis.
After Hvorostovsky found out about his terrible diagnosis, he suspended his concert activities and started treatment. After a course of chemotherapy, the artist felt much better for some time, but the disease did not recede. Florence always remained close and gave him hope that the two of them would be able to overcome the disease. The artist began performing again and did not give up - now he knew for whom he wanted to continue living. Once Florence had already saved him, and he sincerely believed that she would succeed the second time. "" - said the singer.
This struggle continued for two years. But, unfortunately, medicine was powerless. On November 22, 2017, Dmitry Hvorostovsky's life was cut short. At that time he was only 55 years old. Although his last years were overshadowed by the struggle with a serious illness, the artist was grateful to his chosen one for the fact that the second half of his life he felt like a truly happy person …
In the summer of 2017, the artist performed for the last time in his hometown: The audience cried at the only concert of Hvorostovsky.
