One can only guess what brought our former compatriot Ted Vasin to San Francisco, but it was there that he became famous for his vivid paintings with acrylic paints, balancing on such a thin line between routine and fantasy that a rare viewer manages to avoid brainstorming.
Usually, speaking about drawings and paintings with acrylic paints, we imagine something kind, bright. For example, the bright world of the Japanese artist Ayako Rokkaku, who draws with her hands on cardboard, or the unusual design ideas of Ratinan Thaijareorn, who painted white armchairs with all the colors of the rainbow. Most of Ted Vasin's paintings are bright, but you can't call them kind.
In 1986, Ted Vasin graduated from an art college in Moscow. Did he know then which brainstorming he will expose his viewers. His paintings are a balance on the verge of boring reality and something fantastic. This state is enhanced in his exhibitions through sound effects.
The sounds used by the artist are usually very abstract, reminiscent of ambient music, and often it is played live right next to the painting. This really gives new shades to his already bright acrylic canvas, some of which he dilutes with pencil, graphite and other means.
All the artist's works, from 1998 to 2010, can be viewed on his website. Of particular interest is 2006, in which Ted Vasin received a Pollock-Krasner grant.
