New Year and Christmas are undoubtedly the most beloved holidays in the whole world. They are associated with a belief in magic and a childishly direct expectation of a miracle. Monarchs in this regard are no different from ordinary people, perhaps, only with the exception of cases related to congratulating the citizens of their state. True, this year the pandemic has made its own adjustments to the conditions of the celebration.
Unfortunately, this year, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband were forced to abandon the celebration of Christmas in the form to which they are accustomed. In particular, due to the pandemic, they celebrated the holiday at Windsor Castle, although for many years the entire royal family gathered at Sandringham Palace at Christmas. And even the Christmas service was held for them privately in the chapel of St. George, and not in the church of St. Mary Magdalene, as usual.
We propose to recall the time when strict restrictions were not yet introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the royal family happily celebrated Christmas in full force at Sandringham Palace.
Preparation for this holiday begins for the Queen of Great Britain in the summer. It was at this time that Elizabeth II began to sign greeting cards not only for relatives and friends, but also for monarchs, politicians and leaders of countries. In total, about 800 people receive congratulations with the personal signature of the Queen. The Queen's attendants receive holiday puddings from the Queen, and Christmas trees are sent to the schools and churches she cares for.
Shortly before December 20, Elizabeth II and her husband arrive at Sandringham Palace to personally supervise the preparations for the holiday and meet all the other family members who come closer to Christmas. On December 24, a football match usually takes place, in which members of the royal family and all interested workers from the working staff take part. Princes William and Harry are the organizers of the Christmas soccer game and take to the pitch themselves. The rest have the opportunity to watch the game from the stands.
Lunch tea with your favorite sweets on the eve of Christmas is also a tradition. And while adults are having tea conversations, children hang toys special for the Windsor on the tree, for example, the incredible glass angels of Queen Victoria.
And in the evening, after a walk and watching the Queen's congratulatory speech, the most favorite time of the whole family comes - receiving gifts. They do not give each other valuable things, but each gift must have its own flavor. Prince Harry gave his grandmother a hat with the inscription: "I'm not a bitch", and he himself once received a female figurine from Kate Middleton with the inscription: "Raise yourself a girlfriend." At the same time, the figure was nude, and the queen laughed at the figure, which in the water increased in size like a child.
For dinner on Christmas Eve, the closest people gather at the table, but the children are in another room. Anyone present can sip their favorite cocktail and taste traditional Christmas food. The Queen of Great Britain is conservative in this regard and year after year the menu practically does not change on this day, and turkey, fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables and pudding always appear on the table.
Christmas morning for the Windsors begins with a church service at 9 o'clock, where only family members are present, and the rest are allowed to the second service at 11 o'clock. So, when Meghan Markle was still the bride of Prince Harry, she was present at the second service.
After attending church, the family gathers for lunch, and then they all watch their favorite Christmas movies on the big screen in the room.
On December 26, members of the royal family dedicate to guests. Someone goes to visit friends and family, and someone receives guests at home. And Queen Elizabeth II and her husband remain in Sandringham until almost mid-February. Christmas decorations are removed after they leave.
Elizabeth II is not just a person, she is a real phenomenon in the world political arena. That being said, it's very easy to forget the fact that she shouldn't have been queen at all. The personal life of the monarch is shrouded in mystery, despite the apparent publicity. Few people know how the queen actually lives.
