As soon as Alexander Zhurbin appeared on the doorstep of Irina Ginzburg's father's house, she understood immediately: this is her future husband and the father of her son. They have been writing their melody of happiness for 40 years. There is no falseness and wrong notes in this music. They compose their music and share it generously all over the world.
The predestination of love
Their acquaintance is a series of accidents that determined their future fate. On February 25, 1976, Irina was not at all going to visit her parents. Her father asked her to buy a cupcake for tea in order to treat the Leningrad composer who had come to him.
When Irina opened the door and saw him, she already knew that this meeting would change her whole life. He was still married at that time, and she was not at all free.
Sitting down at an old piano, the young composer began to sing, instantly captivating the Ginzburgs. He sang and played music with such a fire that it was impossible to look away from him. Irina looked at him, afraid to move, and then she read her poems and translations to him, and he listened very attentively, completely forgetting that he was in a hurry for the train.
At parting, Lev Ginzburg jokingly suggested that Alexander steal his daughter from him while he turned away, and in response to Zhurbin's answer about his wife's presence, he said that a love marriage is not a hindrance. If only he knew at that moment that his daughter already had plans for this extraordinary man! However, the composer's marriage fell apart completely without her participation.
Orpheus and Eurydice
Irina at that time was very far from everything that happened on the Soviet stage. But when Zhurbin invited her to the Moscow premiere of Orpheus and Eurydice, Irina instantly agreed. She sat in the hall with her friend and was more and more convinced that just such a husband as Zhurbin would become a worthy party for her. It had everything that she personally needed: talent, intelligence, beauty and success.
She came to the meeting with the talented composer at the hotel in full dress. She hoped to translate a business conversation into something akin to a date. However, Alexander did not particularly oppose such a turn.
But he did not go to see Irina off, calmly advised her to take a taxi and calmly fell asleep. In the morning she returned to his room and demanded payment for her services. He was surprised, but managed to pull himself together quickly enough. And he counted out the indicated amount of 100 rubles to her.
The girl coolly tore the money into small pieces, threw it on the bed and headed for the door. He managed to stop her at the very exit. And he simply admitted that he loved her, but was afraid of this feeling, which would distort his whole well-established life.
A novel with a sequel
Then there were joyful dates and bitter goodbyes on the platform, the joy of joint creativity and meeting interesting people. When Alexander introduced Irina to Alla Pugacheva, she was just beginning her ascent to the pop Olympus. They became friends, Alla and Irina, dreamed of getting married on the same day and going together to lay flowers at the tomb of the unknown soldier. True, the dream remained unfulfilled. Irina Ginzburg and Alexander Zhurbin became husband and wife on January 14, 1978. We celebrated the event the next day at the Metropol.
When the newlyweds were waiting for guests, the ensemble at the fountain suddenly played one of the melodies written by Alexander. He said that this is a good sign: Irina has married a future star. She didn't even doubt it.
The main thing, guys, is not to grow old at heart
More than 40 years have passed since then. But they felt like they stayed there, in 1978. They are still passionately in love with each other. They miss being apart, and they often devote all their works to each other. The novel, which began in such an extraordinary way, continues throughout life.
When perestroika struck, they moved to America with eleven-year-old Leo. In Russia, Irina was Zhurbin's wife, and in New York they took autographs from her, like a famous television presenter. Everything was going well for them, but Alexander was eager to go home. He could not find himself in another country, which he still considered and considers his second homeland.
They lived in the United States for 12 years, but in 2002 Alexander Zhurbin made a strong-willed decision to return to Russia. He was not satisfied with the amount of work that he could do in America. And there was a well-founded fear that in Russia the composer Zhurbin would be forgotten.
They returned, leaving their adult son in America, who also writes music and feels quite confident in this country. In Russia, Alexander and Irina began to rebuild their lives, enthusiastically doing what they loved. They write a lot, perform together, give interviews with pleasure and lead a very active life in general.
But the main stronghold and support for them is always their family, their children and grandchildren. And their great feeling, warming their hearts for 40 years now. During this time, they could not get bored with each other, not reveal all their secrets, but only understand that they are always uncomfortable apart.
The family of the composer Alexander Zhurbin and the poetess Irina Ginzburg is a vivid confirmation of the fact that a talented person is talented in everything. Another proof of this -
