Bright and exciting Walt Disney cartoons are popular with children around the world. They have been watched for several generations, they do not get bored and remain always relevant, despite the fact that more than half a century has passed since the creation of many. And the most famous Disney character Mickey Mouse will celebrate his centenary in a few years. But among the many cartoons of the Walt Disney Company, there are those that have been completely forgotten.
Oswald the Rabbit Series, 1920-1930
Not all cartoon lovers know that even before the appearance of Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney's older brother, the rabbit Oswald, came out from under the brush of Walt Disney. It was with him, and not with the funny little mouse, that everything started. This character immediately fell in love with the viewer and brought his creator his first success. True, later the colleague of the cartoonist Charles Mills simply stole the character from Disney and took out all the rights to himself. But Disney was not taken aback, and soon Mickey Mouse was born, looking like Oswald the rabbit, like two drops of water.
Dumbo, 1941
In fact, "Dumbo" is an animated version of Andersen's tale "The Ugly Duckling". Only in the Disney version, it is not a small swan that is persecuted and ridiculed, but an elephant with unnaturally large ears. The baby elephant even gets a very offensive name meaning "stupid." But Dumbo is destined to become the star of the circus he got into.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, 1949
The cartoon is based on the works "The Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Graham and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. In fact, these are two full-fledged cartoons combined in one tape. The first tells the story of the frog Tadeusz Toad, who first got acquainted with the car and wanted to get a miracle of technology in his possession. And in the second, the new school teacher Ichabod Crane fights for the heart of a rich bride, for which he even uses the local legend of the terrible headless horseman.
The Lady and the Tramp, 1955
They say that this cartoon was born after the brilliant, but always busy Walt Disney first forgot about the date with his own wife, and then tried to make amends and presented his wife with a charming puppy. It is from this scene that "The Lady and the Tramp" begins. The Lady is an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who lives in a family, but the Tramp is a street dog. As soon as this couple met, the most real feelings arose between them, which are not afraid of any prejudices.
"The Sword in the Stone", 1963
Walt Disney's last lifetime project, based on the legend of King Arthur. The longed-for sword, firmly embedded in the stone, can only be reached by the one who is destined to ascend the throne. And as a result, he will obey not an aristocrat, but an ordinary boy who plays the role of a servant in the castle.
"Cats-aristocrats", 1970
Sometimes to the aid of the aristocrats of the cat breed in trouble come not the same noble brothers, but the simplest, but very charming and desperately brave cat. However, this happens not only among the mustachioed and striped, but also among people. A very instructive cartoon, in the finale of which the most real musical hit “Everyone wants to be a cat” sounds.
Robin Hood, 1973
This is an animated version of the story of Robin Hood, only the noble robber here appears in the form of a fox hunting in the Sherwood forest. By the way, this cartoon has become a cult for representatives of the furry subculture, people who transfer human images to animals, plants and even inanimate objects.
"The Fox and the Dog", 1981
The story of the touching friendship between a hunting puppy and a fox cub will not leave indifferent either children or adults. True, there will not be an enchanting happy ending in the final, although friendship will, of course, win. After all, they made friends in childhood, the little fox Todd, left an orphan and living with an old woman, and the long-eared puppy Copper, whose owner intends to raise a real hunting dog from him.
The Great Mouse Detective, 1986
And this cartoon has become a kind and very funny interpretation of the works of Arthur Conan Doyle about Sherlock Holmes. He lives in the same famous house on Bake Street, only investigating crimes committed in the world of mice. And he also has a friend, and he diligently writes down and saves for history all the crimes revealed by the protagonist.
Dinosaur, 2000
A fascinating cartoon about dinosaurs, in whose life there is a place for kindness, self-sacrifice and other best human qualities. This film has one fundamental difference from all Disney cartoons: it was created using computer graphics. But in terms of fascination, he can compete with adult action films, because in "Dinosaur" there will be chases, fights and real feats.
The Disney company, after criticism, hung an age limit on some of its cartoons, and cut out several episodes from other films. Racism and disrespect for different cultures - these are the main claims of modern viewers to the classic Disney cartoons. And in childhood almost no one thought about these scenes …
