On June 23-24, 2012, on the territory of the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve (Leningrad Region, Volkhovsky District, Staraya Ladoga village), the next annual military-historical festival of the early Middle Ages "The First Capital of Russia" was held. The 2012 festival is dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the birth of Russian statehood. It was from here, from the ancient city of Ladoga, that in 862 Rurik, the first Russian prince, was called to reign. It was at this place that the history of the Russian state began.
"The First Capital of Russia" is the largest historical festival of the early Middle Ages in the North-West of Russia. It continues and develops the tradition of annual historical festivals in Staraya Ladoga, and is designed to acquaint its guests with the origins of Russian statehood, life, crafts and military traditions of the population of ancient Russia and its first capital, the history and culture of the North-West region of Russia. Festival participants are historical reconstruction clubs from various cities of Russia, near and far abroad, artisans, historians.
The festival program includes a theatrical reenactment of historical events that took place in ancient Ladoga in the 9th century, military competitions, massive battles and demonstration performances in the Old Ladoga fortress, presentation of early medieval life, crafts and arts in a historical camp, ship competitions and performances. Festival guests will immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the early Middle Ages and will be able to be not only spectators, but also participants in festival events: try themselves in archery, ancient crafts and games.
The festival "The First Capital of Russia" is multifaceted not only in terms of the range of events taking place, but also in terms of the tasks to be solved. For reenactors and historians from student to academician, this event is the so-called. experimental archeology, which makes it possible to study history in detail and process, exchange theoretical and practical experience. For the participants in the military and naval parts of the festival, this is an incentive to physical development, tempering of character and an opportunity to demonstrate and test their skills. For guests of all ages, the festival is an event tourism object, which carries not only entertainment, but also, to a large extent, a cognitive function, introducing them to the history and culture of their native land, as well as a propaganda function, educating the population and especially young people in the spirit of patriotism and love for their families. history and culture. For the Volkhov region, this is an event that develops the local economy both in tourism and in all related segments, being a tool for promoting a variety of goods and services, whose manufacturers take part in the preparation and conduct of this event.
Military history festivals are very popular all over the world, it is worth remembering Viking festival in Scotland or similar historical festival in Spain … The demand for the festival in Staraya Ladoga also leaves no doubt: in 2011 the festival gathered more than four thousand people. The bulk of the audience was made up of guests from other districts of the Leningrad Region, St. Petersburg and adjacent regions, despite the relative remoteness of Staraya Ladoga.

Popular "historical" texts about the life of women in Russia, which are actually fakes
There are many popular texts circulating on the Runet that open our eyes to many things in the past: for example, the life of a woman. Probably the three most popular are a story about the socialization of women by the early Soviet regime, an excerpt from a book on housekeeping, where the husband is taught to meet after work, and a text that tells how the husband and wife used to show mercy on weekends in order to live in harmony. And all three are trompe l'oeil
