Sergey Shekhovtsov is a Russian sculptor. The material of his sculptures is somewhat unusual, but the author himself is so delighted with it that he even includes his name in the signature that he puts on his works. Before you "Sergey Porolon Shekhovtsov" and, accordingly, his foam sculptures.
At the dawn of his creative career, Sergei painted pictures, but later changed his direction of activity. According to him, he realized that he wanted to be a sculptor and now with his works he proves that he was not mistaken with the choice. Everything else, including the material of these sculptures, is irrelevant, not interesting. The only thing that really matters is the freedom of creativity, the freedom of the artist, absolute freedom, which does not depend on either the opinion of gallery owners or reviews of critics. This is the artist's personal space.
“I needed to find some area in art other than drawing. I thought a lot and chose foam rubber. It was a personal project that seemed to have nothing to do with art. For a long time I doubted whether I really am a sculptor. But when I saw my own sculpture in the museum to the left of the work of the great Giacometti, I realized that I was doing everything right. The material is a matter of the author's desire, nothing else is behind his choice, and it can be anything: chocolate, lipstick, plastic, bronze - it doesn't matter. Now I work with foam because I want to work with it and because it is convenient on a limited budget. It is quite possible that in the future I will change the material."
By nature, foam is a passive and flexible material. However, Shekhovtsov often treats it as if it were wood or stone, carving out the necessary shapes from it, playing on the contrasts of soft and hard, strong and weak. Sergey has been using this material since 2001.

Neptune Day: How Ancient Roman Celebration Became Modern Foam Parties
This holiday ceased to exist either at the very beginning of our era, or even earlier, but some of its attributes, sometimes in a greatly changed form, have survived to this day.
