For more than a decade, American sculptor Tara Donovan has been transforming the vast array of common objects we use every day into stunning works of art that have a phenomenal effect on viewers.
Tara Donovan is known for working with common materials such as magnetic tape, straws, buttons to create abstract sculptural installations that resemble topographic landscapes.
A creative young sculptor from New York can create miracles from everyday objects. Her sculptural work transforms the usual mass of objects into intricate visual and physical installations. Choosing a certain thing - for example, a straw, tape, or a paper clip - Donovan experiments with the material, grouping and placing it in different ways. Very often her installations resemble geological or biological forms. Folded in layers, heaps, piles, bunches, these objects are very similar to natural systems.
Since 1998, Tara Donovan's work has been featured in 25 individual and group exhibitions at museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, UCLA Hammer Museum, Museum of Modern Art, San Diego, and Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston.
