At first glance, the paintings by this artist are amateur photos, which do not show anything interesting: Lays chips are scattered, cakes are scattered, a map is laid out. But a more experienced eye, accustomed to such a modern trend in art as hyperrealism, will see that these are oil paintings. Artist Doug Bloodworth has created interesting compositions from ordinary objects and products, reminiscent of fun days with his family.
We are already familiar with the concept of hyperrealism from a dozen different artists and sculptors. One of the latest publications on this topic is the ghostly hyperrealism of Istvan Sandorfi. The essence of this subspecies of contemporary art can be reduced to the imitation of a photo by means of painting on canvas.
Doug Bloodworth's painting is dominated by two themes - pop art and Western art (since he is an American, we are talking about Indians and American roots). The main sources of inspiration for this artist are some of the realities of the culture in which he grew up - rural the countryside, Sunday humor shows, cartoons that showed on Saturday mornings, pistols, cowboys and Indians. His favorite movie is "The Big Lebowski", the main character of which - Dude - he drew with pause on the dvd. In addition to pop art hyperrealism and paintings of Indians and the countryside, he prepares a number of paintings on wood and metal, which, by the way, he shot with his favorite guns of various calibers, which turns them into sculptures rather than paintings.
As Doug Bloodworth himself writes, the essence of his paintings is a life story. Each painting has a connection with the artist, who is a family person, and that is probably why some of these paintings are reminiscent of a fun weekend with the family at the dacha, or of the nursery of a child who loves comics, or of preparing together for a big trip. In other words, all these paintings, executed in the style of hyperrealism, are the essence of the artist's own life, and, probably, a person who is far from such a life is unlikely to find something of his own in them.
