The modern Croatian-Austrian design team “Numen / For Use” is famous for its unusual installations made from scrap materials. Recently, designers have delighted visitors with an original attraction made of stretched ropes. Now their attention is focused on outdoor installations made of scotch tape.
For their interactive installation, which looks more like a giant spider web, the designers from Numen / For Use used special durable tape. Duct tape was wrapped around the pillars, beams and trees that served as the foundation of the structure. The artists have created a whole network of duct tape tunnels! It is curious that the installation is absolutely interactive: in the intricate tunnels, both children and adults can safely move, because according to the assurances of the creators, the structure must withstand human weight.
The team was formed in 1998, when several talented designers joined their efforts to create a single creative body. The guys started with the development of sketches and scenery for theatrical performances, and only in 2008 the team began to develop installations that can hardly be called functional. So, as a result of several experiments, the famous installations from adhesive tape and rope attractions were born.
Representatives of contemporary art often turn to the most ordinary and uncomplicated materials in their work. For example, Turkish artist and sculptor Sakir Gokcebag considered toilet paper an excellent basis for creating completely original installations. Interestingly, his fantasy took him beyond the predictable paper crafts - the artist makes wall panels and impressive structures out of such prosaic material.
