In the dreams of a romantically inclined girl, a square covered with roses in the center of a big city always means a beautiful fairy tale about love for an equally beautiful young man. A million scarlet roses are unlikely to be scattered on the square, if this very love is not even in sight, or if it is not ripe enough for such actions. However, the German artist Ottmar Horl was able to break these stereotypes, creating an installation in Zweibruecken from 1000 plastic roses not in the name of love for a girl, but as a tribute to folk holidays and traditions. Zweibruecken is often called the City of Roses, even though the count is not in the millions, but reaches only tens of thousands. Thus, the famous Rose Garden of Princess Hildegard of Bavaria is located here, where more than 60 thousand roses grow, and the number of varieties exceeds 2 thousand. Therefore, one of the traditional holidays for this region is "pink day". Ottmar Herl's art performance "1000 Roses for Zweibrucken" was timed to coincide with another such day.
The artist has symmetrically, in perfect order, built a thousand skillfully made plastic roses in one of the main squares of the city. The spider web has enveloped the square, not giving the gray routine any chance to resist such an onslaught of imagination and creativity. And although the idea of the installation is as simple as a bottle of mineral water, the form of its embodiment and the scale of its implementation cannot fail to impress and leave a person indifferent. This "Rose Street" adorned Zweibruecken for a whole month, willingly exposing its sides decorated with flowers under the flashes of cameras.
This project, by the way, is not the only one created according to this principle. The artist has more than once decorated city streets with nets of various objects, which is indicated on his website.
