In order to force a person to open his soul, you need to enlist his trust, sympathy, create the appropriate atmosphere and find the right words for conversation. And in order to see what is inside of household appliances and electronics, and not new products, but rather old, even vintage devices, you need to do a lot of manipulations with them. But the result is worth it, I'm sure the Chinese artist Hu Shaomingwho became the author of the project Reconnecting Time and looked into the souls of two retro cameras. Having got his hands on several vintage gadgets, and this is a watch, a telephone and two cameras, released in 1920 and 1940, Hu Shaomin took a long time to disassemble each of them. And when I collected it, from a pile of spare parts and parts I got two cameras with built-in zippers, which hide the most frank from outsiders.
Having unzipped the zippers in strategic places, we can curiously look at what the cameras are made of, what is installed where, which wheels are spinning and what is happening inside, until we see it. Ultimately, Hu Shaoming's Reconnecting Time project reveals a hidden world where the perfection and beauty of old working components reigns, and allows you to see and appreciate the ingenuity of engineers and craftsmen of the past.
This art project was created on the basis of the Guangzhou Art Academy. For more information, visit the Hu Shaoming website.
