“I make books that are archival on the inside and antique on the outside,” says Margot Kent. Margot collects pieces of old leather that go on the covers from all over the world in the truest sense of the word: “I use leather traded on farms in Ecuador; cut from the upholstery of old chairs in Holland; leather that was once part of bags, shoes, wallets and saddles, as well as found in abandoned homes throughout the United States. In order to find the right pieces, the 33-year-old designer from Philadelphia regularly visits flea markets, garage sales, and does not even hesitate to explore dumpsters.
