20 years ago, on May 24, 2000, a great actor, chief director of the Sovremennik and Moscow Art Theater theaters, People's Artist of the USSR passed away Oleg Efremov … On stage and on the set, he had no equal, no one questioned his talent, but in everyday life it was often very difficult to find a common language with him. All his life, Efremov enjoyed great success with women, but spent the last years alone. Although his relatives say that even with them he was always alone.

Why Oleg Efremov attracted women so much remained a mystery to many, and he, after many novels, when asked what women mean in his life, answered: "Unfortunately, it is not the main thing …". Family and personal relationships have never been in the first place for him - he gave all of himself only to work. His main passion was cinema and theater.

He set a high bar for himself in his student years, when he wrote in his diary: "I will be the chief director of the Moscow Art Theater!" At that time he studied at the acting department of the Moscow Art Theater School, after which he was not accepted into the troupe. But Efremov did not even think to give up his ambitions: after working for 7 years at the Central Children's Theater, he organized his own theater - "Sovremennik", which soon became incredibly popular with the public. And in 1970, Efremov headed the Moscow Art Theater.

He came to the cinema in 1955 and has acted regularly since then. Even appearing in episodic roles, he attracted the attention of the audience. To do this, he didn't even have to say something. TV presenter Vitaly Tretyakov says: “Efremov was often silent in the cinema. I know nothing better than this silence. Nobody. He looked brilliantly at women in films. They say that women loved him very much. And he also smiled brilliantly. Silence, a smile, a look at a woman - judging by Oleg Efremov, mastering these three arts distinguishes a genius actor from a great one."

He was credited with novels with all partners on the set, and in most cases this turned out to be true. Oleg Efremov was really very addicted and amorous. His first official wife was the actress of the Sovremennik theater Lilia Tolmacheva. Later, she said that Efremov at that time was completely unprepared for family life, moreover, he drank, so their marriage lasted only six months. Tolmacheva said: “Oleg needed women, like alcohol, to maintain himself in a creative heat …”.

Galina Volchek introduced the actor to the daughter of the famous pilot Ilya Mazuruk, Irina. They lived in a civil marriage for 3 years. Their daughter Anastasia later said: “95% of the time my father spent in the theater, and five percent remained with wives, children, girlfriends and everything else. Dad always strived for loneliness. All his life there were relatives, wives next to him, but this did not change anything. I think maybe he was not created for family life at all. In any case, not with such a woman as my mother, who demanded a lot of attention and frenzied love from a man …”. After parting with Efremov, Irina Mazuruk even tried to commit suicide by cutting her veins.

Efremov's daughter Anastasia had to put up with a lot and forgive a lot. For example, the fact that he did not come to her mother's funeral when she died of cancer at the age of 49. Or did not react in any way to the birth of a grandson. Or he shared with her the details of his novels. And there were many of them - with Nina Doroshina, Anastasia Vertinskaya, Irina Miroshnichenko and other actresses. In 1962, he married Alla Pokrovskaya, and although he really loved her and his son Mikhail very much, he still could not resist romance on the side. Therefore, in 1978 this marriage also fell apart.

Despite all his hobbies, the close ones of the actor and director were sure that in fact he loved solitude and always strived for it. Children were replaced by Sovremennik and the Moscow Art Theater, he was not involved in the upbringing of Anastasia and Mikhail and did not perform any household duties. And in his declining years he was left alone. Anastasia said: “No one could have a perfect marriage with my dad. Because any woman is worthy of at least some kind of attention."

The famous actor and director never complained about his health and worked until his last days, despite the terrible diagnosis: pulmonary emphysema. Efremov did not want to move to his daughter's dacha and did not give up bad habits: “He hated being treated and never completed a single treatment cycle. As soon as he felt better, he immediately stopped taking pills and gave up injections. He was forbidden to drink, smoke. But without these bad habits, he could last no more than two weeks. On May 24, 2000, at the age of 73, actor and director Oleg Efremov died.
