Video: Felt sculptures by Stephanie Metz
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
Stephanie Metz called one of the most unusual contemporary sculptors. And it's not just that Stephanie uses felt for her sculptures. The fact is that her sculptures are often called strange and incomprehensible, and sometimes incomprehensible and frightening. But therein lies the phenomenon of Stephanie Metz's felt art. One of the most resonant art projects is still a series of sculptures depicting bears. Not those positive teddy bears that romantic young ladies and young children love so much. Stephanie Metz bears appear before us in the form of embryos and skulls, felt, of course. And it is unlikely that such toys will want to cuddle, stroke, lay next to them on the sofa …
Another series of sculptures from Stephanie is Felt People. Here are figures and portraits, images and roles that the author has been working on for weeks, turning his fingers into a cushion for needles, but as a result we can see soft felt people in all, so to speak, their beauty. By the way, Stephanie does not use any special innovations for her creativity: a set of needles for felting, a little patience, imagination and sleight of hand.
These and other works can be viewed on the site of the author, Stephanie Metz.

Who taught the Russians how to make felt boots, and Why even maids of honor and emperors wore these shoes
In the established perception, felt boots are associated with Russian culture. But in fairness it is worth knowing that the prototype came to us with the Golden Horde. Felted footwear of those times did not resemble the felt boots known to us. Well, the recognizable one-piece felt boot spread in the Russian Empire only by the beginning of the 19th century. And this pleasure, I must say, was expensive. Not every peasant could afford to wear felt boots, and a groom with such a dowry aroused special interest in the circles of brides. Shaft
How an ordinary felt-tip pen saved astronauts' lives
This July was the fiftieth anniversary of a truly landmark historic event - the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. To commemorate this event, NASA and other organizations have planned many special events - various exhibitions, meetings. But few know that the Apollo 11 mission might not have returned to Earth. Astronauts have taken their place in the history of mankind and science. What if things had turned out differently?
Embroidered paintings on felt canvas. Michala Gyetvai aka Kayla Coo
Once upon a time, embroidery and knitting were perceived as a boring hobby, peculiar only to pensioners and Turgenev girls who are bored at the window waiting for a handsome prince. But at some point everything changed, and now embroidering, knitting, weaving, in general, needlework, has become a very fashionable and even profitable hobby, as evidenced by the popular online store Etsy, articles about handmade on our website, and the work of a British artist - the embroiderer Michala Gyetvai, known on the Internet under the names
Topographic food sculptures. Food topographic sculptures art project by Stephanie Herr
The inspiration of the German artist Stephanie Herr lies in the work of the compilers of topographic maps, in their volumetric creations, which can be called almost-sculptures, specific bas-reliefs. They need not only to be viewed, but to be able to understand and read, as one reads comics or stories written with pictures. Having studied the technique of creating relief sculptures, the artist willingly applies it in her own work, as can be seen by looking at the works from the Food topographic sculp series
"Warm" felt sculptures. Creativity of Irina Andreeva
Next to Irina Andreeva, a resident of the Moscow region, it is always warm and pleasant to be. And she has a suitable pseudonym, "teplenkaya", and she is a bright and warm person. And Irina also makes stunning, incredible and, of course, very warm felt sculptures that will not leave indifferent those who are lucky enough to look at them at least once. Perhaps the artist "mixes" some transcendent "substances" into the felt, but no - the casket opens very simply. Work
