American Diana Cooper calls her works "flowcharts for imaginary worlds." Indeed, in our world it is difficult to give any clear name to these works: the author combines various materials and techniques in them, including sculpture, drawing, installation. But whatever they are, viewing and studying them is insanely exciting!
According to Diane Cooper, she loves to change materials and present them in an unusual context. "I want to create a meaning that was not inherent in them before and which they have at the same time." She also likes to "make something be what it shouldn't be." In this search for non-standard meanings and meanings, the author uses a variety of materials, combining sculptural parts of installations with drawing elements.
“In my works, systems overlap, complement and contradict each other,” says Diana Cooper. - I want to show the proximity of order and chaos, as well as the collision of these two worlds. Digital, biological and medical systems support our lives, but they can also fail us. Due to their complexity, they become unstable and sometimes too fragile. Fragility is especially important to me because it highlights our own vulnerability. As a self-made improvisation on existing systems, my pieces are equally fragile, depicting unnamed mechanisms and complex networks supporting hidden functions. I want the audience to think about their own body, about their strength and fragility while contemplating my work."
Diana Cooper was born in 1964 and lives and works in New York. In addition to the USA, solo exhibitions of her works were held in Switzerland, Great Britain, and France. More works of the author can be seen on the site.
