Despite the fact that it is not the gift that is important, but the attention, often it is the gift that can tell what feelings the giver has for you, and what the ritual of giving a gift means to him. Someone will not bother to put a gift even in a beautiful bag, while others will present it in such a way that it will become joyful already from the sight of one package. And then, isn't it great to plunge into childhood, and with a sinking heart to extract the coveted present from the shackles of beautiful paper, ribbons and bows? In Japan, however, the "fight" will have to be done not with paper, but with cloth, since the Japanese, who piously believe in the ritual of giving gifts, have long been familiar with furoshiki (風 呂 敷), - the art of wrapping gifts in fabric. So, first origami, then sushi, and today - and this art is becoming popular in our latitudes. By the way, initially furoshiki was called a special bath mat, with which the Japanese went to the bath, in order to then wrap slippers and a wet kimono in it and bring the bundle home. Over time, the thick, coarse fabric of the "rug" was replaced by thin and soft fabrics, and personal belongings began to be wrapped in such a scarf, using it as a bag and gifts, and then furoshiki turns into an original, beautiful and useful packaging.
It is believed that the ideal size of a furoshiki scarf is from 45 to 230 cm. As for the colors and patterns, it all depends on what kind of gift wrapping technique the furoshiki master will choose, as well as what and to whom, in fact, they will give. And here everything is already the same as with the wrapping paper: female and male colors, delicate and cheerful patterns, thick or thin fabric.
By the way, a couple of centuries ago, when noble Japanese families had coats of arms, they ordered themselves "personalized" fabrics for furoshiki, in which it was customary to wrap gifts for weddings, anniversaries and other memorable dates. He looked at the coat of arms - and you can immediately see from whom the gift is, whom to thank in return.
