Each season has its own advantages, but summer is the brightest and most fun time, and summer festivals - much more than all the days of the year. It was at this time that the Bastille was taken in France, the day of sunflowers was celebrated in Tokyo, horses were circled in California, they were built from sand in Belgium, bulls were set on fire in Pamplona, songs were sung in Kyrgyzstan, and balloons were launched in London. And all this happens in our photo review. 10 great summer festivals and holidays … Enjoy!
Summer Sunflower Festival in Tokyo
Sunflower is one of the most summer flowers, and therefore it is logical that in Japan they pay tribute to it for flower summer festival … It is held in the suburbs of the Japanese capital for three days on the twentieth of July. This year 200 thousand people came to admire the blooming sunflowers!
Mitama Festival and Lanterns
In East Asia, they know a lot not only about flowers, but also about lanterns - this can be seen at least at the Taiwanese Lantern Festival. But that holiday takes place in the spring, and the Mitama festival in Japan is summer, and there are no fewer lanterns on it. Even more - after all, they symbolize the souls of deceased ancestors, and ancestors in Japan are very revered. This festival is one of the quietest, and at the same time beautiful and solemn.
Bull festival
Summer Festival Saint-Fermin in the Spanish city of Pamplona is known all over the world mainly thanks to the ensierro. Ensierro - a mass race of townspeople along the locked streets in a race with angry bulls: believe me, this is a very risky undertaking. In the photo, a festival participant is carrying a glowing sculpture of a bull.
Festival of Kyrgyz culture
New traditions are constantly being born, but old ones should not be forgotten either. Old people-carriers of Kyrgyz folklore, connoisseurs of songs and rituals, gather near the Son-Kul lake (3200 meters above sea level), 400 kilometers from the Kyrgyz capital and sing. Maybe young people won't be interested in folk epics and lyrics, but UNESCO considers folklore to be the treasury of human culture.
Summer chariot festival
The sonorous word "Juggernaut" or "Jagganatha" means in Sanskrit "the master of the universe". This is the title of Krsna himself. In his honor, the Ratha-Yatra Chariot Festival, known to the entire Hare Krishna world, is held. It is celebrated everywhere, but this particular photo of the chariots was taken in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on July 2.
Last chance
While the Spaniards are running from the bulls, the Americans are circling the horses. Last Chance is the romantic name for a rodeo in Helena, Montana. This competition is not as dramatic as playing with death in an Angola prison, but it also requires desperate courage. It is held at the very end of July.
Festival of theaters
The Austrian city of Bregenz is a place where many opera amateurs and professionals gathered on the 20th of July. The festival is renowned for its breathtaking floating stage in Lake Constance. Pictured here is British director Keith Warner rehearsing André Chénier.
Sand creativity
There are many sand sculpture festivals around the world, in which artists must show their imagination and skill very quickly - until the grains of sand crumble. One of these festivals took place on July 22 in Belgium, in the city of Blankenberg. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction at Disneyland Paris served as food for the imagination of the author of this crumbly masterpiece.
Bastille has fallen
Speaking of Paris: the most important holiday of the year for the French takes place in the summer, and not at all in the winter, as we do. It's Bastille Day. On the red (literally) day of the calendar, a whole series of balls and festivals take place, and the Eiffel Tower is lit up with the most grandiose fireworks in Paris - and this, as you know, is no joke.
Balloons over London
The summer sky is so beautiful that only balloons can decorate it even better. The flight of seven hot air balloons over London in honor of the International Theater Festival is a worthy end to our 2011 Summer Festivals Review … There is only a month left until the end of summer - live it brightly, and then the autumn holidays will come to us!

Indian summer festivals: a vivid photo review
Indian festivals and holidays from year to year brighten up the harsh everyday life of the inhabitants of the huge country of India - poor, noisy, dirty and unbearably hot, but at the same time incredibly charming.
