According to Indian religious views, our destiny depends not only on the decisions we have made during our lives, but also on the actions of many, many of our previous incarnations. It was this principle that the artist illustrated. Do Ho Suh into a rather unusual sculpturenamed by him Karma … The very essence of many Indian beliefs and philosophical movements lies in a person's attempt to escape from the wheel of samsara - an endless series of reincarnations, in order to achieve nirvana - a state of absolute bliss and peace as a result.
However, this is influenced not only by the person himself, but also by many of his previous incarnations. That is, each of us exists not only here and now, but also far, far in the past. After all, the soul that lives in us is immortal and carries the karma of many generations.
This religious dogma was embodied in sculpture by the Korean artist Do Ho Su. His Karma statue, recently exhibited in Seoul, clearly demonstrates the principle described above. It represents many human figures sitting on each other's neck. And this pyramid of bodies went far up.
Thus, Do Ho Soo wanted to show that each incarnation of the soul plays a huge role on its path to nirvana. And each new reincarnation of her is another step up on the path to achieving eternal bliss. However, this movement is very relative. And, if you look from the other side, the next reincarnation can, on the contrary, lead down - from heaven to earth. And this already depends on ourselves, on each decision we make.
So, looking at the Karma sculpture from Do Ho Soo, you should think about your actions, decide for yourself where they lead your immortal soul, rushing around in the circle of samsara.

The predecessor of the Moscow Ring Road played one of the main roles in the December counteroffensive in 1941, and the road itself in the first period of its existence was an empty and calm country highway, which could easily be used both for filming a film and for family photos. Decades later, the words "Beware of the car" and "MKAD" correlated in a different way, and one of the dubious road records was the huge death rate among drivers and pedestrians

Mechanical nirvana: sculptures by Wang Zi Won

Thus, the artist helps us to look into the future, when, in his opinion, humanity and technology will harmoniously merge together
Nylon samples. Sculpture-installations from the Specimen Series by Do Ho Suh
We have already written about the amazing, fantastic, and sometimes fabulous sculptures-installations of the Korean author Do Ho Suh on Culturology.ru. Then it was about installations-attractions, where the person - the viewer - plays no less a role than the sculptor himself, because otherwise the essence of the project will not be fully revealed, and this is unacceptable for an art project with a philosophical bias. Today's sculpture-installations will show us the author in a slightly different way: thin nylon, a needle and thread, cut out
